I’ve spent almost as many hours in front of the television in the first 10 months of this year as I spent on TV watching in any two-week period when I was a kid. It is more impressive than it seems because I watched a lot of TV growing up.

The strange thing is that there are more shows than ever to watch — and I have less desire than ever to watch them. This is in stark contrast to my youth when we had, in alphabetical order, ABC, CBS, NBC and National Educational Television.
