Sen. John Gordner speaks at a news conference Thursday afternoon in Shamokin. He announced funding for a new hotel to be constructed, as well as a new medical center.

SHAMOKIN — A new hotel and health care facility are on the near horizon for the city.

Two million dollars has been dedicated to business owner Andy Twiggar, of Lark Berger Ventures, for his upcoming projects in the City of Shamokin and in Northumberland, according to state Sen. John Gordner, R-27, Thursday afternoon.

Gordner, and state Rep. Kurt Masser, R-107, made the announcement during a news conference outside the former Jones Hardware, 115 E. Independence St.

Among the anticipated projects is construction of a new hotel.

In addition, another $1 million grant has been bestowed to the Keystone Healthcare Development Corp. to bring a health care facility to Shamokin.

All of the funding is through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP).

All the hotels that have come to the coal region became bed bug and roach infested dumps. Glosser motor in had a meth lab in the room. The other hotel became a fire trap and was the cause of many unnecessary deaths. Maybe this will be different. Could be a great politically owned hotel. Oops that would mean corruption, my bad.
