Fatal accident

Northumberland County Coroner James Kelley inspects a vehicle following a fatal accident on Route 225 Tuesday morning.

LITTLE MAHANOY TOWNSHIP — A male in his early 20s was declared dead by Northumberland County Coroner James Kelley following a one-vehicle accident on Route 225 just west of Trevorton Tuesday morning.

The male, who has not yet been identified, was ejected from the vehicle along with another person, who was transported to an area hospital by ambulance. Police have yet to identify which of the victims had been driving the vehicle.

The vehicle is believed to have lost control after hitting a curb and went up onto an embankment before hitting a utility pole. The vehicle rolled over across the highway and before coming to a rest.

The highway was closed from approximately 9:30 a.m. while the coroner's office was on scene and as state police created an accident reconstruction. It remains closed as crews work to fix the split utility pole.

State Police at Stonington are investigating the accident.

This is a developing story.
