ATLAS — Atlas Anthracite Coal Co., 325 Mulberry St., provides residential and commercial coal sales throughout the area, offering pick up or delivery.

Owned by D. Molesevich and Sons Construction in Mount Carmel, the company has been going strong since 2006.

Owner Jeff Molesevich said they are a coal mining and preparation operation that sells to the steel industries, water filtration markets and filler agencies. Atlas Anthracite provides for the home heating market and on bigger levels like state institutions, prisons and schools.

Atlas Anthracite is a dealer for Reading Stove Co. and the Alaska Stove Co., with prices varying based on sizes and amenities. They don’t do home installations but can refer customers.

The company also does a lot of remediation work, a positive of strip mining and culm bank reprocessing.

Molesevich explained, “We take mine-scarred land and mine and process it to be able to restore the ground to its original state.”

In the 1900s, mining pits were left open and since then, the Department of Environment Protection has created guidelines for companies to restore those lands to its original state, making sure there are no safety and environmental liabilities.

Coal can be purchased for $165 a ton from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 7 a.m. to noon Saturday. Call 570-554-4200 for more information.
