TREVORTON — When Rob Smith opened Baits, Barrels & Bows 30 years ago, he was looking to fill a niche with a small-town sporting goods store that could offer specialized service and thrive in the region.

He succeeded.

Smith said he has successfully fought off the area big box outdoor stores by offering service that goes above and beyond what many of his larger competitors offer.

“If you buy line here, we will put it on the reel for you with our specialized machine,” he said. “We have four bow presses to do repair work on bows and crossbows and we’re happy to customize bows for a customer if they purchase here.”

Smith said the store has grown in the archery department over the years, especially with the popularity of crossbows.

“We are very hands-on with customers when it comes to fitting them to a bow and arrow combination that works for them,” he said. “It’s all about creating interpersonal relationships with customers when they need the help.”

Smith said his persistence with offering superior service has resulted in a loyal customer base that he has grown over the years.

“I have a great group of customers here and they have helped the business continue to grow,” he said.

Aside from offering a myriad of fishing supplies, bows, and firearms, the store also offers ammunition and processes hunting and fishing licenses along with completing FFL transfers for customers who have purchased guns online.

Typical hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and then 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday from noon to 5 p.m.; Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon.

The store is located at 229 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, and can be reached at 570-797-8615 or through email at baitbarrelsbows@gmail.com.
