MOUNT CARMEL — For the past 12 years, April Rhoads has built a following in the greater Mount Carmel area as a trusted notary public. In return, she has received a slew of repeat customers who have patronized her business, the Notary Shop in Mount Carmel.
And what makes a successful notary, exactly?
“You have to be a people person and be patient with people,” she said. “What we do here is all about customer service. Being timely and respectful with customers has made for a situation where we retain customers at a high rate.”
Rhoads became a notary after working under Jane Vincenzes, who passed away in 2010.
“One day when I was working with her she asked me if I was interested in becoming a notary,” she recalled. “I had just lost my job not too long before that so the timing was perfect. ... I love to do paperwork and I love to write and she ended up teaching me everything I know.”
Rhoads said the Notary Shop specializes in registration and driver’s license renewals and also works with ATV registrations, boat registrations and birth certificates.
“I want to thank all of our repeat customers,” she said. “I can tell what time of the year it is by the people who are coming in to get their registrations renewed. I see them each year and I am very thankful for any person that walks through that door.”
The Notary Shop is located at 215 S. Oak St., Mount Carmel, and is open from noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, noon to 5 p.m. Friday, and noon to 3 p.m. Saturday.
