SUNBURY — For over 115 years, the Zimmerman family has been selling automobiles from their dealership in the Sunbury community.

Zimmerman’s is located along Route 61, just across a small trestle bridge at the entrance to the city of Sunbury. The 9,000-plus-square-foot facility features a large, modern showroom building and wide selection of 200 new and used Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram Truck vehicles on its lot.

“This time of year sales of our 4x4 and all-wheel drive vehicles typically do well, which would be our Jeep and Ram Truck lines. However, over the course of the past year we’ve seen an overall sales increase of roughly 20 percent, with those two lines becoming our best sellers year-round. Of the vehicles we carry here on our lot, about half are new and half used,” said owner Bob Zimmerman.

Zimmerman’s son, Troy, who is the company’s general manager, also noted an increase in popularity of four-wheel drive and off-road vehicles.

“We estimate that about 80 percent of our company’s total sales are currently either four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicles. This year, they’ve redesigned the Jeep Wrangler from a JK to a JL model, lengthening the body and upgrading the transmission from a six to eight-speed, which also now gets up to 20 miles per gallon, about a 20-percent improvement in gas mileage over previous models,” he said.

The auto dealership employs 28 people in the areas of sales, parts and service and management.

Zimmerman’s Mopar service department offers customers a complete body shop and fender repair facility, along with Mopar Express for routine maintenance items such as oil changes and tire rotations handled by their team of certified technicians.

With regard to the long history of his family-owned business in the Sunbury area, Bob Zimmerman said his great-great-grandfather started things in 1889 as a horse-drawn buggy and carriage construction and repair shop in Seven Points.

“We have a sleigh out here on our lot that was built by our family back in the 1800s,” he said.

In 1913, Zimmerman’s relocated to 1301 Market St. and continued at that location for the next 90 years until 2003, when they completed construction of their current 14-acre facility at 1435 Market St., a short distance away and next to the bridge, where they’ve been ever since.

Zimmerman’s is online at and can be found on Facebook. Call them at 570-286-7718.
