WILLIAMSTOWN — Minersville took advantage of a depleted Williams Valley squad to knock them from the ranks of the unbeaten in this 30-12 loss at Viking Stadium Friday night.

Several lineman and leading rusher were ineligible for the game because of an incident earlier in the week at school, leaving quarterback Isaac Whiteash and his receiving score to shoulder the burden.

Minersville dominated the line in the early stages when the defense broke through the line and tackled Whiteash in the endzone, putting up the safety and the two-point lead. The Battling Miners would break out to a 23-0 lead before Williams Valley got on the scoreboard with Logan Williard getting a touchdown just before the half ended to make it 23-6.

At the end of the game, Gage Miller ran the ball in from the Minersville 12 to put the final score at 30-12. It was an unusual game for the Vikings as they only amassed 18 yards of rushing on the ground and 132 yards in total offense.

The Vikings will try to right the ship next week as they entertain the 3-1 Loyalsock Township Lancers on Friday night.
