SHAMOKIN — Thursday was a tear-filled, happy and memorable day for Margaret Snyder. The beloved resident of the Harold Thomas High Rise celebrated her 100th birthday before a packed social room filled with family, friends and staff.

The crowd of about 25 people began gathering around 3:15 p.m. and by 4 p.m. after local musician Vic Boris arrived on the scene, the only one left to arrive was Snyder. Moments later, the surprised birthday girl emerged with her walker, clearly at a loss for words and overcome with emotion by the love, smiles, hugs and honor being directed her way.
