SHAMOKIN — During Monday’s city council meeting, multiple citizens voiced opposition to the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area’s ‘Taking It to the Streets’ ride on Saturday, Sept. 21, and other future events to benefit downtown businesses.

Residents complained that the ride will cause loud noise and muddy and dangerous conditions by having ATVs access Terrace Avenue from the AOAA trailhead off Route 125 above Burnside before entering city streets.

Sorry, but someone please tell me again how I, as a taxpaying citizen am benefitting from anything the AOAA is doing? I just don't understand. As far as the local businesses are benefitting. I only see bars. I road around town to see who the local benefactors were, so I know. They weren't buying hoagies and ice cream. They were out for beer and liquor. Is this all we are and is this only who should benefit? This is not the Shamokin I grew up in. There's nothing about family or community. It's about a few people who want to take advantage of a blight ridden town and get drunk. Who wants this that lives here and wants to see the last vestiges of their town intact?

I agree with those in our town that don't want the noise and the dirt. Put it to a vote.
