COAL TOWNSHIP — Two months after saying he would run for county commissioner, Vinny Clausi announced this morning that he's changed his mind.

Clausi said he made the "difficult decision" to not run after conversations with family and friends.

"Although I am sad about the choice, I know it is best for myself and my family," Clausi was quoted in a statement released Monday morning.

"The hardest part about reaching this decision was letting down citizens from throughout Northumberland County who have offered me their support and encouragement since my (Dec. 4) announcement. I am confident that if I would remain in the race, I would be elected commissioner."

Clausi served two four-year terms as commissioner from 2008 to 2015, during which he "fought to clean up Northumberland County government."

"I was planning to run again for commissioner, not for personal gain, but to work to protect the taxpayers," he was quoted in his statement. "Although I will not be an elected official, I will not be silent. I will continue to expose corruption wherever it is found and join with the citizens of Northumberland County to demand accountability of our elected officials."

A longtime local businessman, Clausi lives in Coal Township.
