This vehicle sustained severe damage after striking a deer Wednesday evening in Ralpho Township.

RALPHO TOWNSHIP — Area law enforcement officials issued a warning today that motorists traveling on highways in the rural sections of Northumberland County should be on alert because of an increase in woodland animals, particularly deer, crossing many of the roadways.

The warning came on the heels of the second accident within a 20-hour period on two highways in the lower anthracite region involving a large buck hit by a car.
