MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP — A 52-year-old Kulpmont woman suffered a leg injury early Saturday in an industrial accident at International Paper Co. along the Locust Gap Highway.

Mount Carmel Township Police Chief and Fire Marshal Brian Hollenbush reported Michelle Parker was injured in the 1:30 a.m. incident when her right foot became caught in a cardboard roller machine.

Hollenbush said emergency medical personnel and International Paper Company employees took about 30 minutes to extricate Parker, who was transported by AREA Services ambulance to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

A nursing supervisor at Geisinger said Parker was admitted in fair condition.

In addition to Hollenbush and International Paper employees, assisting were township fire chiefs, firefighters from Atlas, Strong and Mount Carmel, Mount Carmel Rescue Squad, Mount Carmel Township, Kulpmont and Mount Carmel police.

Emergency personnel were at the scene for about an hour.
