Flames shoot out of second floor windows at a home at 39 S. Seventh St., Shamokin, Friday afternoon.

SHAMOKIN — A second alarm fire at 39 S. Seventh St. was knocked down quickly by firefighters late Friday afternoon.

The call went out around 4:47 p.m. for a structure fire, and around 5 p.m. flames were seen burning out of the front second story windows.

Firefighters dragged hoses up steps and into the first floor to access the flames on the second floor, and were also working from a porch roof. As of about 5:15 p.m., the flames coming out the windows had turned to smoke as it appeared the blaze was coming under control.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire contained to the second floor and attic.
