SHAMOKIN — The annual fireworks display sponsored by Citizens Fireworks Inc. and Citizens for a Better Community (CBC) will be set off from atop the culm bank overlooking Shamokin at 9:40 p.m. Saturday.

The rain date for the pyrotechnics display is Sunday.

In conjunction with the fireworks display, Kevin Ball & the Breakers will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Claude Kehler Memorial Park at Arch and Third streets. The music is part of the summer concert series sponsored by the City of Shamokin. Food and craft vendors will be available at the park during the concert.

Angie Arnold, secretary for CBC, said curbside collections will be held Saturday on Route 61 at Pool World, Sixth Street near Jack Williams Tire and Second Street near the playground.

She said donation containers for the fireworks also are available at local businesses.

The cost for the display is offset by donations, the curbside collections and a fireworks stand operated by volunteers from Citizens Fireworks Inc. on North Rock Street across from The News-Item.

The fireworks stand will be open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, according to Glenn Knarr Sr., president of Citizens Fireworks Inc. A variety of non-aerial fireworks are available at the stand.

Last year, $9,814.64 in donations and $6,200 from fireworks sales were collected.
