Giving back to the community

From left, Eric Kuijpers, owner of Covered Bridge Brewhaus, and Cindy Popewczak present a $500 donation to the Rev. Paul and Cindy Eby, of Restoration Ministries Church, Shamokin, Friday at the church. Three donations will be given to organizations in the city, said Popewczak, and all stem from Covered Bridge Brewhaus’ recent fifth anniversary celebration. “I wanted to give something from that (celebration). I wanted to pay back the community,” Kuijpers said, thanking the customers who have helped the Brewhaus succeed. In addition to this donation, which will help Restoration purchase food for distribution in the community, John the Greek Concessions will give $1,000 to an as-of-yet undisclosed charity in Shamokin and Bissinger’s Apple and Peach Dumplings donated $750, or 10% of its sales during the anniversary celebration, to a fund set up to help area resident Tammy Tweed battle cancer.
