SHAMOKIN — A group of concerned citizens and volunteers are organizing a community workshop to build on the momentum created by a similar event held just one month before the outbreak of COVID-19 in the United States.

A steering committee led by local leaders and officials has been meeting monthly since the summer in hopes of organizing a workshop set for Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023.

Not one of the ways to move forward here is the number one way things change in America. Local pride is increased with home ownership. The number one way to make a town city or borrow better stronger and cleaner is pride in home ownership. We need a direct path to home ownership in Shamokin if we have any hop in changing the city. We need a leadership that want to make change and work to make the city better. The only way that is going to happen is with open and honest communication. With the distrust and secrecy that this and the past administration has had it will not be able to foster a future of pride in home ownership. Locals have moved out of Shamokin since the 50's those home continue to become rentals. the level of pride in a city from a renter is not the same as the pride in home ownership.
