BLOOMSBURG — Warden David A. Varano reports the death of an inmate, Damon P. Knouse, 39, who was discovered in the Columbia County Prison Housing Unit A shower stall with injuries at approximately 10:58 a.m. Saturday. Knouse’s injuries required immediate first aid.

Prison staff, which included onsite medical staff, immediately responded and provided emergency care until the arrival of EMS staff. Knouse was transported to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, for further emergency treatment. Geisinger Medical Center reported that Knouse was pronounced dead at 11:54 a.m. Saturday.

Knouse, was being held on a burglary-related offense since being committed to the prison on Jan. 20. The facility has been in contact with the Bloomsburg Police Department who has assigned Det. Melanie Beck to further investigate the circumstances involving the death of Knouse. The Montour County Coroner Office has notified next of kin and will determine the official cause of death.
