fire

The Masonic building at Eighth and Independence streets, Shamokin, was the scene of a major fire that destroyed the 116-year-old structure, Dec. 14, 2017.

WILLIAMSPORT — U.S. Middle District Judge Matthew Brann granted partial summary judgment Tuesday in favor of Brethren Mutual Insurance Co., which denied a claim submitted by Clayton Andrews under the belief that the Pottsville man intentionally set or directed someone to start the fire that destroyed the Masonic building in Shamokin.

The insurance company’s investigation cited multiple pieces of evidence to support its conclusion that Andrews had intentionally set the fire, and Andrews cited conflicting evidence to support his assertion that the investigation’s conclusion was unreasonable and inaccurate.
