Robinson

Michael James Robinson, right, is escorted by State Constable Sam Spigelmeyer from the office of Magisterial District Judge Michael Toomey on Tuesday after waiving his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of impersonating a federal officer, disorderly conduct and disrupting a public meeting.

SUNBURY — A senior judge has ordered Michael James Robinson, of Shamokin, who is charged with multiple offenses relating to four separate incidents, to be released from Northumberland County Jail on $5,000 unsecured bail on each offense. During a video bail reduction hearing that followed a 30-minute status conference in judge’s chambers Wednesday afternoon, Senior Judge Lawrence Clark, of Dauphin County, granted a motion by Robinson’s attorney, Brian Ulmer, of Lewisburg, to release his client from prison on his own recognizance while maintaining other bail conditions. Ulmer said Robinson was a non-violent person and had secured a home plan to live with people along Buckhorn Road in Bloomsburg. The defense attorney told the judge his client is not a flight risk and will be present for future court proceedings. The county district attorney’s office, which was represented at the status conference and bail reduction hearing by Assistant District Attorney Michael Seward, did not oppose the bail reduction or Robinson’s release from prison, which was scheduled to occur Wednesday night or today. Upon issuing his order, Clark said, “I believe this is an appropriate resolution.” The 57-year-old Robinson is charged by law enforcement officers with impersonating a federal officer, disorderly conduct, harassment and accumulation of garbage involving incidents in Shamokin. Robinson thanked the judge, Ulmer and Seward, and said, “I love my freedom.” Robinson, who rambled on as he did in previous court appearances, claimed he captured 351 write-in votes for county commissioner in Tuesday’s general election. According to unofficial county voting results, only 41 write-in votes were cast for county commissioner. After Clark wished Robinson good luck and a happy holiday season, the defendant said, “As long as Brian Ulmer is on my side, I’m not afraid of anything. God bless you, sir.” Ulmer and Seward declined comment after the hearing.
