MOUNT CARMEL — The Mother Maria Kaupas Center is offering stipends to eligible college students in the Mount Carmel area who are selected to perform community service over the Christmas holiday break.

Members of Divine Redeemer and Our Lady of Mount Carmel churches in Mount Carmel, Holy Angels Church in Kulpmont and SS Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Mount Carmel are eligible to apply for the Mother Maria Kaupas Center’s fourth annual winter service program.

Applications may be obtained by contacting the center at 570-339-3450, option 7, or Deadline for submitting applications is Nov. 28. Applications are also available from pastors of the four churches.

Students will perform community service at the Kaupas Center, their home parishes and at designated sites.

The competitive selection process requires nomination to the program by the student’s respective pastor and completion of an essay. Applications will be reviewed and assessed by representatives of the Mother Maria Kaupas Center Advisory Board, the Sisters of Saint Casimir in Chicago and the Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Scranton.

Students will receive $30 per day, up to 10 days, for their community service. One of the students will receive an additional $100 as the recipient of the second annual Dolores Orzel Award for best exemplifying Gospel values and demonstrating strong leadership skills.
