KULPMONT — Kulpmont100 has announced dates and times for various community events, including the borough’s annual Memorial Day parade.
The group will hold a Comedy Shop fundraiser today at 7 p.m. at the West End Fire Association, 1254 Maple St. The event will feature two professional comedy acts. There will be food, beverages and prizes. A limited number of tickets remain. Doors open at 6 p.m.
From 9 a.m. to noon Sunday, Kulpmont100 will join veterans and associate members to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day with a limited breakfast menu at the American Legion Post 231 hall.
At 7 p.m. Saturday, April 26, Kulpmont100 will host the annual soupie contest at the West End Fire Association. Sopressata, cappy, pasta, with red and white wines will be judged. Plaques will be awarded to the top two finishers in each category.
Contestants can drop off entries at West End Fire Co. from 4 to 6 p.m. on event day. Meats need to be sliced with names attached to bags. Pastas and wines need to be identified by name of entrant. (Wines will be sampled by judges only — all beverages for the general public need to be purchased from the West End. Meats and Pastas will be available for everyone to enjoy at no charge.
On Saturday, May 25, there will be a music concert at the American Legion Post 231 picnic grounds along Ash Street.
“The American flag and flags of all branches of the armed services will be waving prominently and proudly to honor servicemembers of the community,” commented Dave Shinskie, Kulpmont100 member.
Kulpmont Mayor Nicholas Bozza, along with representatives from the legion and VFW Post 8354, will distribute American flags donated by Bozza, Shinskie said.
Limited fare and beverages will be offered to the public.
On Monday, May 27, the annual Memorial Day parade, organized by the Kulpmont’s Veteran’s Associations, under the leadership of Kulpmont American Legion Post 231, will be held.
The parade will include members of VFW Post 8354, local organizations, youth athletic teams and the Mount Carmel Area High School Big Red Band. Parade elements will also include local veterans, firetrucks, firefighters, and emergency units. Kulpmont100 will sponsor an aerial display, weather permitting.
