ATLAS — An idea by a handful of friends to help a classmate from the Mount Carmel Area (MCA) Class of 1997 suffering from ALS has turned into a major fundraiser scheduled for 2 to 10 p.m. today at the Coal Region Sports Complex, 558 W. Saylor St.

A large turnout of family, friends and even strangers is expected for “Rock the Complex,” to benefit Steve Anoia and his family. Anoia will be present with his wife and two children.

Among the many raffle baskets that have been created for the event is one from the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs, where 1997 MCA graduate Brett Veach is the general manager. Veach had star tight end Travis Kelce do a video in support of Anoia and the event that was posted at the “Rock the Complex” Facebook page.

Tickets are available at the door for $25. Only those 21 and older are permitted. The entertainment lineup includes Terry Meyer, 2 to 3 p.m.; standup from Chris C, 3 to 3:15 p.m.; Under Pressure, 3:15 to 6 p.m.; Patrick Burke, 6 to 7 p.m.; and Coal Town Boys, 7 to 10 p.m.
