District cross country

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP — Lanny Conner, a longtime Southern Columbia track and field and cross country coach known for his love of the sport and easy-going nature, has died at age 70.

Conner had been a fixture at area track and field events since 1972, when he began coaching at Berwick High School following his graduation from college. He served as Bloomsburg University’s cross country coach from 1987 to 1997 before becoming Southern Columbia’s head coach for 20 seasons until his retirement following the 2018-2019 season.
