MOUNT CARMEL — The Christopher Club of the Mount Carmel Knights of Columbus will hold a blessing of the manger ceremony in the club social rooms at 128 W. Third St. at 7 p.m. today.

Prior to the blessing of the manger, “Christmas on Oak Street” and other downtown events will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with various vendors in attendance.

The Santa Claus Parade will be held at 1 p.m. with gifts being distributed to children at the end of the parade.

Priests participating in the blessing of the manger include Fathers Frank Karwacki of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Ryan Fisher of Divine Redeemer Church, Andrew Stahmer of Holy Angels Church, Michael Hutsko of SS Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, and Ignatiius Hunter of St. Michael Orthodox Church.

Members of Mount Carmel Ministerium also will take part in the blessing.

The club is decorated with radiant seasonal decorations, lights, a wall mural, traditional and contemporary seasonal items and a beautiful hand-built manger with figurines depicting Baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph and others.

A local vocal group dressed in holiday attire will lead the participants in singing traditional Christmas carols.

Sir Knight Michael White has been in charge of decorating the club for many years. His hard work, creativeness and commitment to the club is appreciated by everyone.

White serves as chairperson for the event and is being assisted by Eileen Bergan, secretary of The Christopher Club, and Sir Knight Brock Bridy.

Others assisting in the community event being held in conjunction with “Christmas on Oak Street” and the Santa Claus Parade include Grand Knight Ed Teevan, Christopher Club President Kenn Splitt and Faithful Navigator Bruce Facer.
