SUNBURY — A pedestrian hit and killed by a train in Upper Augusta Township Sunday has been identified as Dustin W. Weirick, 39, a county official said Monday.

Northumberland County Coroner James Kelley announced that Weirick was identified by his family, who reside in the Sunbury area.

He was identified at Sunbury Hospital by way of his tattoos, Kelley said.

Weirick was hit by a train in the area of Brush Valley Road and Route 147 at 3:55 p.m. Sunday.

State police at Stonington said he was walking north in the middle of the tracks when he was struck by the northbound train.

There was one witness to the incident in addition to the train conductor, Kelley said Sunday night. Information on who that person was has not been officially released.

Weirick’s death has been ruled an accident due to multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
