Memorial dedication Thursday
SPRINGFIELD — The public is invited to a rededication service for the veterans memorial at the top of Logan Street, above the Mother Cabrini ballfield in Coal Township, at 2 p.m. Thursday.
Local dignitaries, members of veterans’ organizations and the Knights of Columbus Color Guard will participate. There will be a gun salute and “Taps” will be played.
The event was postponed from June because of rain.
Fireworks sales continue
SHAMOKIN — A number of non-aerial fireworks remain for sale from Citizens Fireworks and Citizens for a Better Community, nonprofits that organize and put on the city’s annual fireworks display.
The store along Rock Street is no longer open, but those interested can stop by The News-Item, 707 N. Rock St. during business hours and ask for Glenn.
Among the items remaining are punks and lanterns.
Proceeds benefit next year’s fireworks display.
