COAL TOWNSHIP — Food, fun and families will all have their day on Saturday morning and afternoon at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional School. The 15th annual Raiderfest Community Fun Day will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday and will feature a number of fundraising events.

Raiderfest brings together students, parents, teachers and members of the community, while helping to raise money for various student activities.

“It’s a great opportunity for them to come out and get acquainted with the school, their fellow students and teachers,” said Sister Mary Anne Bednar, Lourdes school administrator and secondary principal.

Sports scrimmages

A number of sports scrimmages will be held as part of this year’s Raiderfest. Boys soccer will kickoff at 10 a.m., with girls volleyball at 11 a.m. Girls soccer starts at noon, followed by inter-squad junior high basketball at 1 p.m. The scrimmages allow student athletes to get to compete with one another and prepare for the upcoming sports schedule.

Elementary classroom tours

Classrooms will be open from 9:30 to 11 a.m. for students and their parents to meet with teachers for grades pre-k through sixth and ask questions. Students are afforded an opportunity to walk through the school, meeting their homeroom teacher and other faculty for the upcoming school year.

New to this year’s Raiderfest, visitors can stuff their own collectible animals. It is similar to an activity known as “Build-a-Bear.”

Fun for kids

A number of games will be available for children to play. There will be two bounce houses, face painting, cotton candy, snow cones and games with fun prizes. The games are geared primarily toward younger children.

Delicious food

Homemade ethnic foods are always a crowd favorite. Among the number of homemade items available for purchase are potato cakes, haluski, macaroni and cheese, pierogies, hamburgers, hot dogs, pizza, fresh fruit and more.

Junior class bake sale

One of the longstanding traditions at Lourdes is that the junior class handles fundraising for the senior class prom. This year, the juniors will be selling a variety of delicious home-baked goodies in the school cafeteria.

PTO basket raffle

The PTO basket raffle allows attendees to purchase tickets for a drawing to win one of more than 12 themed baskets.

Tuition sense

Lourdes provides this program for parents to help raise money toward their own children’s tuition through the purchase of gift cards, which give a percentage back to the school as a tuition credit.

“Raiderfest is a fun day for our students and their families. They get to meet new people and make new friends here at Lourdes,” Bednar said.
