ELYSBURG — Elysburg Fire Department’s Emergency Medical Services (EMS) is participating in a pilot program with a goal of reducing soft tissue and bone infections associated with open fractures by providing an antibiotic.

The agency is one of three within the Seven Mountains EMS Council, serving nine counties, participating in the pilot. It involves administering Cefazolin to patients with open fractures, also called a compound fracture, in which there is an open wound or break in the skin near the site of the broken bone.
