WEIGH SCALES — Three people were transported for medical treatment as a result of a T-bone crash Tuesday afternoon at Route 61 and Bridge Street near the Wayside Inn in Ralpho Township.

Despite extensive damage to a 2017 GMC Canyon truck and a 2013 Ford Explorer, firefighters were not required to extricate the occupants of the vehicles following the 4:45 p.m. crash.

According to Patrolman David Tomtishen, the GMC, operated by Philip Breen, of Lavelle, pulled out of a stop sign at Bridge Street and into the path of the southbound Ford, operated by Julia Chism, of Shamokin.

The force of the crash caused the GMC to hit a PennDOT sign in the median and travel across both northbound lanes of Route 61 and onto a grass embankment, where it came to a rest near railroad tracks owned by North Shore Railroad Co. The Ford came to a rest partially on the grass embankment and the shoulder of the northbound lane.

EMS from transported Breen, his occupant, Carmella Breen, and Chism for their injuries.

Also responding were fire police and firefighters from Elysburg Fire Department and Ralpho Fire Co. The road reopened to northbound traffic at 5:45 p.m.
