FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP — It took two votes for Southern Columbia Area School Board to avoid shutting down operations by approving a $22.7 million budget for 2020-2021 Monday night that includes a maximum 3.3% school tax increase and no layoffs.

Faced with potentially shutting down the district if they failed to approve a spending plan by Wednesday, school board members adopted the budget on a 6-2 vote after initially voting 4-4 on the motion.
