SHAMOKIN — Chess players from the Immanuel Christian School chess team in Hazleton recently traveled to the Shamokin-Coal Township Public Library to challenge the library’s scholastic club members in games of chess.

The library’s Scholastic Chess Club formed over the past year and meetings at the library at 10 a.m. the second and fourth Saturdays of each month. All levels of players, from beginners to advanced, are welcome to attend the meetings and participate in games of chess. Instruction and strategies are discussed at each meeting and players engage in competition with one another.

Students in second through 12th grade from any school district or home school are eligible to attend.
