COAL TOWNSHIP — The man believed to have been seen on surveillance videos trying to break into three township homes on Sunday has been charged with loitering and prowling at night.
Scott Cover, 26, allegedly was caught on two separate home security cameras walking onto residents’ porches and appearing to try to gain entry around 3:30 a.m. on Independence, Arch and Lynn streets, township police said Tuesday.
At least two videos were uploaded to Facebook by residents to help identify the suspect, who was wearing a knit winter hat, Fox Racing sweatshirt and khaki pants while carrying rolled-up American flags. The videos garnered more than 22,000 views, and were turned in to police.
The man can be seen attempting to open the front door of homes with a key hanging around his neck on a lanyard and walking away after failing to unlock the doors.
Police reported one resident was woken by his or her dog barking and went outside to ask what was going on. Cover claimed he was looking for his home, but was unsure where it was, and had a key for it.
He was charged with three misdemeanor counts of loitering and prowling at night.
