LEWISBURG — Two local voice ensembles, the Susquehanna Valley Chorale (SVC) and Susquehanna Valley Youth Chorale (SVYC), are looking for new members.

The SVC and SVYC will present “The Peacemakers” on Sunday, March 17, at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts. This is a work extolling peace with texts by iconic figures that have shaped history and who were messengers of peace: Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, The Dali Lama, Mother Teresa, Albert Schweitzer, Martin Luther King, and Anne Frank among others.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $8 for students and can be purchased by calling the Bucknell University Campus Box Office at 570-577-1000 or at the door.

Youth singer auditions

The Youth Chorale is heading into a new year with a new opportunity for young singers to join the ensemble. Auditions will take place on from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Sharon Lutheran Church in Selinsgrove for singers in grades two through 12. Rehearsals will be Monday nights, also at Sharon Lutheran Church, and will begin Jan. 21 and will culminate in a performance on April 28, “Give My Regards to Broadway.” This concert will feature music from the Broadway stage including many familiar selections from “West Side Story,” “The Music Man,” “The Wizard of Oz,” “Lion King,” “Mary Poppins,” “Fiddler on the Roof” and others. Youth chorale singers will also collaborate with the Susquehanna Valley Chorale in its March 17 performance of “The Peacemakers.”

Specific audition times are necessary. If there are students who would like to join the youth ensemble, contact Coleen Renshaw, SVYC director, at 570-765-0637 or coleenrenshaw@gmail.com to schedule an audition or to get more information.

Adult singer auditions and open rehearsal

After the successful open rehearsal in the fall, the SVC will host another open rehearsal on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m. Interested singers may attend the rehearsal then audition the following week. Arrive at 6:30 p.m. to meet and mingle with SVC board members and other singers over light refreshments. Extra scores will be available to follow along with during rehearsal, and sign-ups for auditions the following week will also be posted.

The SVC has developed a mock audition video on its website, SVCMusic.org, to give prospective singers a sense of what the audition is like and who will actually be in the room. Appointments are required. To schedule an audition from SVC’s website, go to SVCMusic.org/singer-info/auditions/
