SHAMOKIN — A Shamokin man and his son were injured late Friday night when a pickup truck they were riding in crashed into a utility pole on East Sunbury Street near Ninth Street.

Patrolman Shane Mowery reported Daniel Thomas Bucharski, 62, of 1019 E. Sunbury St., was driving a 1983 Ford F-150 pickup truck east on Sunbury Street (Route 61) shortly before 11 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a left curve in the road, causing his truck to exit the street and crash head-on into a utility pole.

Bucharski suffered a chin laceration, but refused medical treatment at the scene.

His son, Daniel Bucharski-Eck, 31, of the same address, who was a passenger, suffered a head injury and was transported by AREA Services ambulance to Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital before being transferred to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

Bucharski-Eck underwent emergency room treatment at Geisinger before being discharged, according to a nursing supervisor.

The truck was towed by Jeff’s Towing.

Mowery said an investigation is continuing. Assisting the officer at the scene was Patrolman Matt Dunn.
