COAL TOWNSHIP — Scott Dannheimer has been identified as the volunteer firefighter who suffered a medical emergency at the scene of a fire earlier today and later died.

Dannheimer was a captain with the East End Fire Co. in Coal Township, township Assistant Chief Mike Timco said.

Firefighters from the township and Shamokin were dispatched to the one-alarm mobile home fire at 556 N. First St. at 12:19 p.m. Crews used water from a booster tank to initially attack the blaze until a four-inch hose was hooked up to the main through a hydrant at First and Walnut Streets.

The fire completely gutted the mobile home, which was the residence of Linda Anne Dobeck.

Timco, who lives nearby, was the one who spotted smoke and flames emanating from the structure and called 911.

"After calling it in, I sprayed it with an extinguisher until our crews arrived," he said.

Fire crews from the Maine, East End and Forest Hills fire companies responded, in addition to Coal Township Fire Department, Shamokin Fire Bureau, Coal Township Rescue and Area Services EMS.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
