SHAMOKIN — City police are continuing their search today for vandals who broke into the Lawton Shroyer Memorial Pool on North Rock Street early Tuesday morning, smashed a glass window at the concession stand and removed approximately $20.

Pool manager Larry Strausser said a passerby who lives near the community swimming pool reportedly “spooked” the trespassers shortly after 4 a.m., causing them to flee the premises.

Strausser said the vandals either crawled over or under a fence, smashed a window at the concession stand and removed approximately $20 in rental chair money.

Strausser said no money from admissions or the concession stand is kept at the pool overnight.

He expressed his thanks to the passerby for reporting the break-in and possibly preventing additional damage.

Police said they weren’t sure how many trespassers were involved.

Police also have received recent reports of teens swimming in the pool during the late evening or early morning hours.

Anyone who witnesses trespassers at the pool is urged to call police at 570-648-5708 or 570-648-3868.
