EAST CAMERON TOWNSHIP — Firefighters were met with rocky and steep conditions on Mahanoy Mountain as they fought a stubborn wildfire that burned 25 to 30 acres Monday.

The fire, which was spotted by a first responder at about 2:40 p.m., is believed to have started near the 6000 block of Upper Road, about 3 1/2 miles east of Gowen City, according to East Cameron Township Assistant Chief George Kerstetter.
