Snydertown Road crash

One person was taken to a hospital with a minor injury as a result of a one-vehicle accident on Snydertown Road in Upper Augusta Township Wednesday evening. The accident occurred just east of Anthracite Road around 6 p.m. According to state police at Stonington, Rebecca Crider, 51, of New York, was operating a Toyota Highlander east on Snydertown Road when she became distracted by her 10-year-old son and failed to negotiate a turn. The vehicle entered the shoulder and struck a PennDOT sign and sideswiped a guardrail. The vehicle crossed the opposing lane and climbed an embankment. The vehicle re-entered the highway and crossed the opposing lane of travel before stopping against a guardrail along the eastbound shoulder. The child and another passenger, Caroline Crider, 21, were uninjured. Rebecca Crider was cited by Trooper Logan Spiece with a traffic violation. Responding were fire police, two ambulances from Americus Hose Fire Co. and Upper Augusta Township Engine 721.

Retail theft

SHAMOKIN — Rhonda Pearce, 39, of 14 N. Market St., Apt. 1, Shamokin, was cited by Patrolman Brandon Cohick for retail theft for allegedly stealing $14.77 worth of merchandise from Weis Markets shortly before 3:30 p.m. Aug. 26.

Minor injuries

PENN TOWNSHIP — Nicole L. Mantz, 35, and her 8-year-old female passenger, both of Trevorton, suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle accident Aug. 30 on Route 522 near 18th Street in this Snyder County township.

State police at Selinsgrove reported Mantz was driving a 2011 Kia Optima south at 2:24 p.m. when she stopped to turn south into the Dollar General. At that time, the front of a 2002 Toyota 4 Runner operated by Shelby J. Reeder, 81, of Middleburg, struck Mantz’s car in the rear, causing moderate damage to both vehicles.

Reeder and another passenger in Mantz’s car, Zachary A. Zerbe, 22, of Selinsgrove, escaped injury.
