SHAMOKIN — Two defendants pleaded guilty Tuesday and were ordered by Magisterial District Judge John Gembic III to pay fines and costs.
Kevin Eric Eltringham, 35, of 1327 W. Mulberry St., Coal Township, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and was ordered to pay a $300 fine plus costs and placed on probation for one year.
A charge of possession of heroin was withdrawn.
Eltringham was charged by Shamokin Patrolman Raymond Siko II in connection with a June 27 incident at Seventh and Arch streets.
Robert Ortiz, 42, of 33 N. Seventh St., Shamokin, pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia and was ordered to pay a $300 fine plus costs.
Ortiz was charged by Shamokin Cpl. Bryan Primerano relating to a June 29 incident at his residence.
COAL TOWNSHIP — Michael T. Lewis, 54, of 535 Main St., Ranshaw, was charged by Chief of Police William Carpenter with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol and one count of driving under suspension as a result of leaving the scene of an accident in the 500 block of Main Street at 6:30 a.m. Aug. 1.
Police reported Lewis was driving a 2005 Nissan Altima that struck a parked Subaru Forester owned by Robert Beck, of 524 Main St., Ranshaw, causing scrapes to the entire side of the vehicle.
Lewis’ car sustained minor paint damage.
Police said Lewis had a blood-alcohol content of .218 percent.
COAL TOWNSHIP — Patrolman Cody Rebuck charged Jessica Marie Wywadis, 20, of 520 Pine St., Kulpmont, with possession of drug paraphernalia relating to a DUI checkpoint at 1:15 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Route 61 and Feeney Street.
Police reported Wywadis possessed a multi-colored glass smoking pipe with marijuana residue.
SHAMOKIN — Edward K. Davis, 39, of 554 Chestnut St., rear, Kulpmont, was charged by Trooper Dominic Picerno of state police at Stonington with three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, driving a vehicle with a suspended registration, driving without a license, driving under suspension, driving without insurance and careless driving.
The charges relate to a traffic stop on West Lincoln Street at 1:16 a.m. July 31.
Police said Davis refused to submit to chemical testing.
COAL TOWNSHIP — Bruce Lee Opra, 34, of 530 W. Girard St., Atlas, was charged by Trooper Zachary Martini of state police at Stonington with possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
During a search of Opra’s vehicle at 11:15 a.m. June 9 in the 500 block of Big Mountain Road, police found marijuana, a scale, a cell phone and $731 in cash.
SHAMOKIN — Robert Adam White, 41, of 1112 W. Spruce St., Coal Township, was charged by Trooper Dominic Picerno of state police at Stonington with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, operating a vehicle with an obscured license plate, failing to drive in a single lane, careless driving, failing to wear a seat belt and a lighting violation.
The charges involve a traffic stop on North Second Street at 1:18 a.m. July 27.
Police said White had a blood-alcohol content of .213 percent.
SHAMOKIN — Shane M. Brosious, 30, of 812 E. Dewart St., Shamokin, was charged by Cpl. Jarrod Scandle with possession of drug paraphernalia relating to an incident at 6:11 p.m. Aug. 8 at Shamokin and Spurzheim streets.
Police reported Brosious possessed three syringes, several “cottons,” two plastic caps and Q-tips.
DUI, drug offenses
SHAMOKIN — Cpl. Jarrod Scandle charged Daniel J. Addice, 24, of Philadelphia, with driving under the influence of marijuana, possession of a small amount of marijuana, driving under suspension and a stop sign violation.
Police said the charges were filed in connection with an April 25 traffic stop at Shamokin and Independence streets after Addice allegedly failed to stop for a stop sign at Water and Shamokin streets shortly after 10:30 p.m.
SHAMOKIN — Sydney Len Pope, 55, of 1007 W. Walnut St., Coal Township, was charged by Patrolman Shane Mowery with two counts of driving under the influence of Lorazepam and Oxycodone, careless driving, driving under suspension, driving without insurance and driving an unregistered vehicle.
The charges relate to an accident at 7:39 p.m. June 29 at Mount Carmel and Commerce streets.
