Nicole Heim offers this description of herself: “She is a married mother of two teenage boys from Shamokin — a long forgotten coal town she couldn’t wait to get away from, the same area she couldn’t wait to return to. She spends her free time confronting her demons armed with pen and paper. She chooses laughter to celebrate her failures and tries to hold onto her values while the world forges ahead.” By day, Heim is data manager/child accounting officer for the Southern Columbia Area School District. She wrote the accompanying story in 2016 and provided it for use by The News-Item. Read more from Nicole at followmyreadnicoleheim.blogspot.com.
