SUN CITY, Arizona — Belmont J. Procopio, Jr., of Sun City, Arizona, passed away peacefully in his sleep Jan. 4, 2022, surrounded by his loving wife of 65 years and their family.

Bel was born in Atlas Feb. 3, 1934, to Belmont Sr. and Victoria (Griscavage) Procopio. He was educated in Mount Carmel schools and then joined the United States Air Force. After his service, he worked in the family’s grocery business.

In 1956, he married the former Marianne E. Manney and resided in Mount Carmel. In the ‘60s and ‘70s, he owned and operated the popular Central Super Market, “Where Quality was Higher than Price.”

In 1976, the couple moved with their family, Susan, Lisa and Monte to sunny Phoenix, Arizona, where he opened Bel’s Quality Meat Market and later Keystone Water Conditioning.

He was an avid golfer, loved sports and most of all loved his beautiful family. He was always very close to his parents, siblings, aunts and uncles and many lifelong friends back in Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Procopio and James Procopio, a daughter, Susan Young, and a granddaughter, Ora Evelyn Young, and son-in law, James Bass.

He is survived by a brother, Charles and Linda Procopio, of Jupiter, Florida; a sister, Concetta and Richard Jansen, of Elysburg; a son, Belmont J. III (Monte Procopio) and his wife, Mary Ann; and a daughter, Lisa Bass. 

Also surviving are grandsons, Mathew Procopio, Arthur Young, Jimmy Bass and Jesse Bass; great-grandchildren, Andrew and Nathan Young, Jax and Carys Procopio and Satyana, and Kaia and Atlas Bass.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the family’s convenience.
