CATAWISSA — Bernard G. Petro, 84, of 204 Bethel Drive, died Monday, Jan. 11, 2021, at Mount Carmel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Mount Carmel.
He was born in Bloomsburg, June 23, 1936, a son of the late Joseph Sr. and Mildred (Zinda) Petro.
He was a graduate of the Locust Township High School in Numidia.
Bernard served in the U.S. Army.
Bernard was married Nov. 26, 1990, in Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, Elysburg, to the former Bernadette Tomaschik, who passed away a few hours before him.
He was employed as an auto mechanic, having worked for Jack Williams Tire and Auto Service Center, in Berwick, A & A Auto Parts, in Bloomsburg, delivering parts and also worked in the garage with his brother, James.
He was a member of Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, Elysburg.
Bernard is survived by his stepchildren, Donald Tomaschik and his wife, Debi, of Catawissa, Colette Huxta and her husband, Leonard, of Shamokin, and Gerald Tomaschik and his wife, Cyndy, of Pampa, Texas; six grandchildren, Mallory and Tyler Tomaschik, Timothy and Ashley Huxta, and Brittny and Lindsey Tomaschik; three great-grandchildren, Harley, Dakota and Elliot; six brothers and sisters, Joseph Petro Jr., Christine Kobilis and her husband, Leonard, Emily Wanzie and her husband, Jerry, James Petro and his wife, Jane, Marie Bloss and Margaret Boyles; and many nieces and nephews.
PETRO — Bernard G. Petro, 84, of 204 Bethel Drive, Catawissa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday at Queen of the Most Holy Rosary Church, Elysburg, with the Rev. Joseph Scanlin as celebrant. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg. A viewing will be held at from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the church. Leonard J. Lucas Jr., supervisor, Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home Ltd., 120 S. Market St., Shamokin, is assisting the family with the arrangements.
