ELYSBURG — Bruce P. Varano, 79, of Elysburg, passed away Sunday, April 4, 2021, at his home.

He was born in Danville, March 8, 1942, a son of the late Lloyd and Susanne (Shoffler) Varano.

He was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School.

Bruce served in the U.S. Army as a sharpshooter during the Vietnam era.

He operated Varano Insurance and worked for Coldwell Real Estate until his retirement. He was a member of the Rotary Club and on the library board in Elysburg and a past Boy Scout leader. He helped run Ralpho Township fundraisers and played Santa for the town.

Bruce was a member of Trout Unlimited and the NRA and was an avid bowler, hunter and fly fisherman. He worked at bingo for the fire company and going to the cabin and playing “Hossey.”

Bruce was a proud “Made in America” advocate, and he loved his dog, Charlie.

He was an honest and gentle man and was brave through his short battle with skin cancer.

Surviving are his wife, Debra (Kimmel) Varano; a sister, Kathy Pensyl, and her husband, Lee, of Mount Carmel; and a brother, Kevin Varano, of Elysburg.
