ELYSBURG — Leon K. Pensyl Jr., 85, of Bear Hollow Road, passed away Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 20, 2021, at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

He was born in Bloomsburg, Aug. 22, 1936, a son of the late Leon and Velma Pensyl. He graduated from Ralpho Township High School.

Following high school, he was employed at Shamokin Hide and Tallow, in Paxinos, for 10 years. Then he was employed for Edward’s Lake to Sea Bus Co., which changed to Continental Trailways. He finished coach driving for King Coal Trailways in 2006.

Leon was married to Alice M. Pensyl for 66 years.

Leon was active in St. Peter’s United Church of Christ as a consistory member for 60 years. He was also a member of Elysburg Lodge No. 349 F.&A.M. of Pennsylvania and Bloomsburg Caldwell Consistory, as well as the Valley Gun Country Club.

Leon was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved farming, hunting and family beach trips. Leon traveled extensively with his job, often accompanied by his wife as a hostess, and visited all 50 states and every province in Canada.

Leon and his wife enjoyed taking trips with friends, including international cruises and European tours. He was also a car enthusiast and enjoyed going to numerous car shows.

Leon is survived by his wife, Alice; two children, a son, Ken Pensyl and his spouse, Julia, and a daughter, Terre Bonshock; five grandchildren, Heather Pensyl and her husband, Jon Gross, Ashley Pensyl, Emily Lally and her husband, Andrew, Ryan Bonshock and his spouse, Jenna, and Eric Bonshock and his spouse, April; four great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Garrett, Brynley and Lily Bonshock; his sister-in-law, Ada Rousseau and her husband, Frank; and numerous cousins, nieces and extended family members.

PENSYL — Leon K. Pensyl Jr., 85, of Bear Hollow Road, Elysburg. A memorial will be held at noon Monday at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, 739 Airport Road, Paxinos, with Pastor Paul Gurba officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery.
