COAL TOWNSHIP — Nancy Jane Boughner, 82, of 121 Harvey St., passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022, at Geisinger Medical Center, in Danville.
She was born in Shamokin, Jan. 31, 1940, to Raymond and Florence (Sminkey) Osman.
Nancy graduated in 1957 from Shamokin High School, where she was very active as a cheerleader and basketball player.
After graduation, she was employed as a secretary by the Shamokin Area School District.
On June 30, 1962, Nancy married Jesse Walter Buriak. They lived in Hughesville, where Nancy was employed at the Grange Bank and the East Lycoming School District. Jesse “Walt” passed away suddenly, June 21, 1965. Nancy remained close to the Buriak family even until the time of her passing.
Upon her return to Shamokin, Nancy worked for the Shamokin Area School District as business manager and board secretary. On Aug. 31, 1968, she married Eugene C. Boughner, at St. John’s United Church of Christ, in Shamokin. Gene and Nancy enjoyed 54 years of a wonderful, happy marriage.
Nancy loved her church, having served as Sunday school teacher, consistory member and director of the Christmas candlelight service. Throughout her very busy life she helped whenever and wherever needed.
Also high on Nancy’s list of interests was the Class of 1957. She loved the regular class gatherings and special reunion get-togethers. In addition, Nancy’s interest and involvement with her friends’ card club and Annabelle’s Belles lasted for more than 20 years. That latter group continues to meet. She always looked forward to that.
Annually, Nancy invited friends to her Rehoboth Beach residence. Everyone enjoyed her kind hospitality, trips to the beach, pool, restaurants and stores. What a blast! Anyone who knew Nancy was quite familiar with her love for shopping. She could shop with the best. Just ask Gene!
Nancy had an infectious smile. She looked forward to being with her family and friends and reminiscing about “the good ol’ days.” She loved doing things for people.
Her love for her family, especially her grandsons Aricin, Kiegan, Greycn and Delain, was obvious. She seemed to be happiest whenever she was with them.
Nancy is survived by her husband, Eugene; their two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Robin, of Mason, Ohio, and Eric and Sarah, of Irish Valley; Mike and Margie Buriak and their families; four grandsons; several cousins; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers; Donald and Raymond Jr., as well as his wife, Jane.
Nancy left a wonderful example of how a life should be lived. She will be missed by many.
