SHAMOKIN — Nancy L. (Herb) McElwee, 71, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018, at her residence, with her daughter Kelly by her side.
She was born Dec. 8, 1946, Nancy (Herb) McElwee started from very humble beginnings as the daughter of Harry A. Herb and Catherine (Schroyer) Herb.
Growing up with a family of 16 other brothers and sisters, love was never a thought, it was all they had. Nancy was a dedicated wife, sister, mother and grandmother. Perhaps one of the most selfless people in the world, she had never put herself first, she has always lived for everyone else.
Throughout her life, Nancy has worn many hats. She was a tremendously hard worker, a fantastic cook, dedicated wife, wonderful mother, and grandmother. Her greatest accomplishment was being a loving mother. She made sure she always put her family first, always maintained a beautiful home and hosted the most fantastic meals. She took great pride in her cooking and passed her incredible skill on to her wonderful daughter, Kelly.
Some of the proudest moments of Nancy’s life include retiring from The Northumberland County Career and Technology Center, seeing her children grow and marry, spending time with her grandson, Crue, doing her puzzles as well as taking rides with her sister, Jeanne, spending time with her son-in-law, George, who took her as his own mother after losing his mother and of course, how could we forget her beloved furry bodyguard, Oscar.
Throughout Nancy’s life, she had always maintained a lovely smile, warm heart and a great sense of humor. Leading up until Nancy’s final breath, she was carefully and lovingly taken care of by her daughter, Kelly. As her primary caregiver, Kelly and Nancy had an incredible bond that could not be broken. Nancy’s son, Ron, much like Kelly adored his mother, recognizing her as his first love and giving him the tools necessary to love and nurture.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Kelly (McElwee) and George Pellowski, of Shamokin; a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Lyndsey (Novack) McElwee, of Shamokin; a grandson, Crue McElwee; two step-grandchildren, Amara and Brandon Pellowski; four brothers, Harry Herb, George Herb, Edward Herb and Ron Herb; six sisters, Barbara (Herb) Kahler, Patricia (Herb) Bendas, Connie (Herb) Paige, Ruth (Herb) Snyder, Jeanne (Herb) Jurewicz, and Sally (Herb) Sherman; and a sister-in-law (but just like a sister), Mary Jane (McElwee) Barcavage; in addition to a tremendous amount of nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents, Nancy will be reunited with her beloved husband, Ronald, brothers, John, Thomas, Ralph, Robert and William Herb, and sister, Margaret (Herb) Bendas.
