SHAMOKIN — Roger K. Shawda, 56, of 100 S. Diamond St., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital.

He was born in Shamokin, May 10, 1962, a son of the late Roger J. Shawda and Gloria Yoder, who survives.

Roger was a life-long resident of Shamokin.

He was a graduate of the Shamokin Area High School Class of 1981.

On March 19, 1983, in the Assembly of God Church, Market Street, Shamokin, Roger was married to the former Patricia Whary, who survives.

Roger was the owner/operator of R.K. Shawda Home Improvements. From the time he was old enough to swing a hammer, he worked alongside his grandfather learning all he could about construction and woodworking.

He loved working with wood, both on big and small projects and was an avid fisherman, having taken numerous trips to New York to his favorite fishing spots

He was a member of the Mountainside Assembly of God Church, Coal Township.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children, Brian Shawda of Mount Carmel and Colleen Allen of Shamokin; five grandchildren, Shanon, Abigail, Danielle, Faith and Lucas. Two sisters and his mother-in-law, Josephine Whary. Several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his uncle Jerry.


SHAWDA — Roger K. Shawda, 56, of 100 S. Diamond St., Shamokin. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Mountainside Assembly of God Church, Coal Township, with the Rev. Dr. Michael T. Goodling, officiating. A viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Leonard J. Lucas Jr., supervisor, Leonard J. Lucas Funeral Home, 120 S. Market St., Shamokin, is assisting the family with arrangements.
