SUNBURY — Thomas Paul “Tom” Weldon, 81, of Sunbury, entered the presence of his heavenly Father, Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, at UPMC Hospital, in Williamsport.

He was born Aug. 23, 1939, in Danville, a son of the late William and Margaret Mary (Quirk) Weldon. Tom grew up in Kulpmont.

He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Grade School and was a graduate of Mount Carmel Catholic High School. He attended the Dale Carnegie School for Personal Development and Leadership. Tom later pursued extensive training in fire science and forensic fire application.

He was married for 63 years to Aurelia Jean (Picarella) Weldon. He married his high school sweetheart and moved to Mount Carmel where they raised their family.

He was a successful insurance agent at Metropolitan Life before becoming the local business owner of Weldon’s Market until his retirement (and he ran out of kids at home).

He was active in his community serving as a volunteer firefighter at the West End Hose Co. and fire chief of the Borough of Mount Carmel. Tom was a founding member of the local EMS and was instrumental in the construction of the Mount Carmel Rescue Squad building.

He was a member of the Elks Club and an enthusiastic booster of the Mount Carmel Tornadoes football team. He had a love/hate relationship with the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.

Tom was a true outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing and was most at home surrounded by nature and wildlife. He enjoyed passing on these interests to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, even at the risk of an occasional errant fishing hook to his person. He was an avid bowler and loved attending and discussing the many sporting events of all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Tom was a devout Catholic and member of St. Monica Parish in Sunbury. His quick Irish wit, beautiful blue eyes and kindness are his legacy. He was most beloved and will be greatly missed by his family and all the many lives he enriched.

Tom is survived by his wife of 63 years and five children, Deborah M. Harper and her husband, Kristian, of Haymarket, Virginia, Kathleen A. Alexander and her husband, Thomas, of Selinsgrove, Thomas D. Weldon and his wife, Stacey, of State College, Mary Jane E. Weldon, of Montclair, New Jersey, and Helene E. Everhart and her husband, Scott, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Tom was blessed to be called Pap by his nine grandchildren, Heather Page, Lindsay Broadwater, Katie Alexander, Kelli Molyneaux, Sawyer Weldon, Piper Weldon, Ian Everhart, Aiden Everhart and Quinn Everhart; six great-grandchildren, Jackson Page, Connor Page, Caroline Page, Faye Molyneaux, Olivia Broadwater and Eliza Broadwater; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, John Weldon, Mary Weldon, Aileen Weldon, Margaret (Weldon) Altmire, William Weldon and Ann (Weldon) Weber; and a son-in-law, Mark Rosetta.
