Democrats Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Edward Markey uncorked the “Green New Deal,” which is the latest scheme by Democrats to sink the American economy, while drowning the nation’s taxpayers.
Taking its cue from FDR’s New Deal, what’s archaic has been revived. The New Deal certainly did its best to prolong the Great Depression by growing government and raising taxes.
The Green New Deal is its Democratic legacy 85 years hence, “a 10-year national mobilization” to exorcise carbon from the U.S. by calling for 100 percent renewable power. The legislation was briefly posted on Ocasio-Cortez’s website, but removed after condemnation — some from fellow Democrats.
The plan is to eliminate all fossil fuels and nuclear energy within 10 years. It promised to “phase out 99 percent of existing automobiles and all other combustion-engine vehicle(s), whether on land, air or sea, replacing them with electric vehicles, for which charging stations will be built everywhere.”
Once that’s done, “upgrading all existing buildings in the United States and building new buildings to achieve maximal energy efficiency, water efficiency, safety, affordability, comfort and durability, including through electrification” is next.
In order to retrofit every building in the U.S. within 10 years, perhaps we can tap into Santa’s technology where he makes it to every house in one night.
Planes are to be grounded and replaced with high-speed rail. No word on how much the subway to Hawaii will cost.
The resolution also guaranteed a “a job with a family-sustaining wage, adequate family and medical leave, paid vacations and retirement security to all people of the United States” even if they are “unable,” or best of all, “unwilling” to work.
Marx couldn’t have written it better.
According to the Wall Street Journal, despite generous government subsidies, renewable sources are just “17 percent of U.S. electric power. Without subsidies, solar costs 20 percent more than natural gas, while wind-power is two-thirds as costly.” Given their unreliability, fossil fuel plants must run on stand-by.
Carbon energy jobs and its infrastructure would be history, while China would suffer no such limits.
Those of us that support free markets and individual liberty must educate those who advocate socialism, which always leads to totalitarianism. Too many folks under age 40 know only one side the Marxist legacy from their public education.
The Green New Deal is an absurd manifesto — an updated redux of Marxism — where power-hungry Democrats use the justification of climate change to rationalize a government takeover of our free market economy.
How can so many be out of touch?
To date, 67 Democratic co-sponsors have signed on in the House and 11 in the Senate, including presidential candidates Kamala Harris, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar. Don’t think for one minute that any of the bill’s supporters will suffer any reduction in their standard of living.
This legislation is a mass indictment of our public education system and should be branded juvenile, but sophomoric is more fitting because it fits the college-girl image that follows Ocasio-Cortez like her shadow.
Don’t think for a minute that such legislation didn’t materialize since Ocasio-Cortez paddled into the Washington swamp. This is far more about socialism than environmentalism.
Even in Al Gore’s wildest dreams, he couldn’t fathom this.
If anything, the Green New Deal should give Americans an alarming glimpse into the intellect of their elected officials and those Democratic presidential hopefuls.
I suppose they don’t need much energy because they have an overabundance of hot air.
Whether they are communists, fascists, socialists or radical leftists, you can eternally recognize authoritarians seeking to control and exploit people because their needs always involve surrendering more authority, money and judgment to them.
God endowed us with the inalienable right of liberty, but there are always those in power who crave to abuse, pilfer and manipulate it.
Democrats promote extreme views. They applaud laws that kill a viable baby, even after birth. They establish sanctuary cities that obstruct the federal government from deporting illegal immigrants who have been convicted of felonies. As foolhardy as their positions are, the hazards they embody remains.
The American abode is divided over whether we are to be free or slaves to the government.
The choice should be an easy one.
